Why Do Pollsters Publish Poll Results for Free? An FAQ.
Probolsky Research conducts and publishes public interest polling when we see a gap in the research — when no one else is releasing relevant data. Sharing public interest polling data also allows us to showcase our work to the media, the public, and future clients.

Who pays for these polls?
We do.
Asking who paid for a poll or survey is a smart question. Readers should understand if there was a campaign, company, government agency, or nonprofit sponsor.
When Probolsky Research publishes results that are paid for by a client, we disclose it.
What does “public interest polling” mean?
Public interest polling is research released to help people understand public opinion on issues affecting their communities, government, elections, and sometimes brands and behaviors.
Why would a research company give away its work?
We are curious about how people think, how they feel, and what motivates them. Periodically, we invest in answering those questions without waiting for a client to commission a study.
There is also a business benefit. We want to be known for thoughtful research.
What kinds of polling do we release?
Many of our public releases cover elections and public policy. And sometimes we ask about something more frivolous, like whether Americans would buy a stranger a latte.
In September 2026, we published statewide California findings on the races for Insurance Commissioner and Superintendent of Public Instruction, along with voter views on public funding of political campaigns (Prop 4).
Other recent releases have explored New York City voters’ priorities. Sometimes industry and public policy collide, creating interesting opportunities, like when Amazon pulled out of building a new HQ in New York City.
Does Probolsky Research work for paying clients?
Yes. The vast majority of our work is private to our clients. And even if our work is for a public agency, it’s their decision how and when to release it.
Can academics, journalists, and others cite Probolsky Research findings?
Yes. We publish these results so people can get value from them. Credit Probolsky Research, link to the original release, and reach out with questions or for a quote.
Where can I find the methodology?
We always disclose the methodology on the slide presentation or in a results memo. If you need clarification, contact Dr. Adam Probolsky.
